Your Mercedes-Benz in spring: what you need to know... and do

Spring is already here, and the ice and snow are melting fast. In some parts of Quebec, it's already gone, while in others it's only a matter of time. Finally, you will be able to take advantage of all the capabilities of your Mercedes-Benz, especially if it is a sporty car.

However, you must first make sure that your vehicle is ready for such driving. To that end, we've put together a list of five things you can do to maintain your ride in the spring. You can of course do some of these steps yourself, but you can also leave your model to us for complete peace of mind.

1 - Replacing your tires

Depending on the type of tires you have, winter or all-season, you may need to rotate or replace the tires for some designed for summer. This is especially true for winter tires, which don't hold up well to non-winter surfaces and temperatures; the breaking point is at seven degrees Celsius. If you're reinstalling your tires from last summer, make sure they're not too worn or still cracked. You don't want a tire that won't allow you to exploit your vehicle's capabilities, whether on or off the road.

2 - Check your brakes

Another important aspect of your spring maintenance is to make sure your Mercedes-Benz brakes are in good condition. This includes checking the condition of the brake pads, making sure other aspects of the brake system are in good condition, and taking a look at the level of fluid reserved for the brake system.

3 - Clean the underbody of your vehicle

Salt builds up in the winter, especially in the parts of your vehicle that are more likely to receive or store it. This can lead to corrosion and rust, especially on the surface of your vehicle, but also on its structure. That's why it's a good idea to clean anything that you can't see when you're admiring your model in a parking lot. You may even want to make a habit of doing this often during the winter.

  1. Change your vehicle's oil

Just like the cold winter weather, the warmer summer temperatures also tend to put a lot of stress on your engine. It's important to change the oil in your vehicle to make sure it can handle the worst of the heat. Also, summer oil is not the same as winter oil. Ask your Mercedes-Benz Specialist for more information. He or she will be able to answer your questions better than anyone else.

  1. Apply a protective product

When the sun comes out, the vinyl and leather surfaces of your vehicle can be damaged by the sun. Your Mercedes-Benz is filled with rich, high-quality surfaces; it's your duty to protect them. The same is true for the bodywork, which could benefit from a simple wash and wax, but also from the application of a sealant.
