State-of-the-art technology in the new 2021 Mercedes-Benz S-Class

For the year 2021, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class gets a new look. And since we're talking about the company's flagship model, it's no surprise to see it arriving with a host of new features and technologies. Here are three of them that are truly astonishing.

1 - An intelligent steering wheel

Autonomous partial driving systems are increasingly present in modern vehicles. Although they are able to move the vehicle without our help on the highway, for example, they require us to keep our attention on the road, and often our hands on the wheel. With the S-Class, this will no longer be necessary, as two sensors inside the S-Class are able to tell whether our hands are on the steering wheel. Otherwise, as you may have experienced, you may have had to move the steering wheel (steering) to indicate to the vehicle that we were still in control.

2 - In the event of a collision

The S-Class security systems are so many that they can't be counted on the fingers of one hand. They are all equally effective and contribute to our well-being. New for 2021 is the Pre-Safe Impulse system. In the event of a collision coming from one side of the car, this system detects the impending impact and raises the S-Class to lessen the impact for passengers. The device is part of the E-Active Body Control system and represents a real technological tour de force.

3 - Rear airbags

Airbags have been in our cars for so long that we forget how important they are. For 2021, Mercedes-Benz is adding front airbags for rear passengers, just like the ones in the front seat, to protect them in the event of a frontal collision. This is a first in the automotive industry.
