Safety technology in the Mercedes-Benz GLB

When it comes to safety, Mercedes-Benz has always been an industry leader. Let's just remember that it was Mercedes-Benz that first introduced an anti-lock braking system (ABS).

So, it's no surprise that when you take a look at the features offered with a vehicle like the GLB, you'll discover a very complete lineup. Many of these features are standard, while others are optional. The following will give you a good idea.

Standard equipment

Standard security features include passive as well as active features. The former include seven airbags, LED daytime running lights, LED headlights and lights, a tire pressure monitor, and a heated windshield washer system to make sure you never run out of fluid to clean your windows in the winter.

The second acts directly to keep us safe. This is the case with emergency brake assist and brake assist, for example.

We even benefit from a stabilization device in case of side winds. Very effective.

The structure of the bodywork, which features high-strength steel at the front, is also a safety element that should not be overlooked, even though it is the basis for everything else.

Optional extras

As an option, usually within generously packed groups, a number of features are available. These include automatic low beam, blind spot and lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, or traffic sign recognition that makes it easier for us to comply with speed limits.

But since we're at Mercedes-Benz, everything goes further. For example, if an evasive manoeuvre is necessary to avoid an obstacle, a steering assistant comes to provide a calculated steering force to help us perform the manoeuvre. A device also allows us to stay in our lane while the car puts us back in our lane if we're about to change lanes without activating our turn signals.

You can even take advantage of the Active Lane Change Assistant. It takes care of the lane change for you. All you have to do is activate the turn signal and the system does the rest. This is very handy in heavy traffic or when your visibility is limited, for example. The system allows you to keep your eyes mostly in front during the maneuver.

All in all, with the GLB, you can enjoy a highly safe environment. You couldn't ask for better when buying a new vehicle.
