Mercedes-Benz GLC: revised and improved for 2021

The Mercedes-Benz GLC is one of the most popular vehicles of the brand, and for good reason. This SUV not only offers a practical size, but also the driving experience of a car, as it shares its seats with the C-Class sedan. That's what explains the presence of this letter in its name. And for the other letters, GL, they refer to the German word Geländewagen, which means off-road vehicle.

For 2021, Mercedes is putting some interesting improvements to the model, especially in terms of equipment. In fact, there are more standard amenities with the versions offered, as well as more individual options in the catalog, which avoids the forced choice of certain groups to enjoy what you want.

Before going any further, it should be noted that the information provided by the company concerns the general product offering for the United States. It is possible that some Canadian specificities may be different.

For one thing, all models now come standard with passive keyless entry, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, as well as the company's Active Parking Assist system. The latter allows for automatic parallel or perpendicular maneuvers.

Individual options can also be selected, such as a 360-degree camera, automatic low beam or hands-free tailgate opening and the Parking Damage Detection application that informs you if your parked vehicle has been damaged. Note that some of these features may be found on a more fully loaded version. For example, the 360-degree camera is now standard on the GLC 63 versions.

As for the standard equipment, it's as generous as ever with features such as an adaptive suspension, LED headlights, dual-zone climate control, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a power-opening tailgate, the MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) multimedia system, as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto applications.

The GLC 2021 will continue to be available in a regular configuration, or in a sportier coupe version with a sportier profile and a rearward sloping roof. Basically, the GLC 300 will still feature a 255-horsepower, 273 lb-ft of torque, 4-cylinder turbocharged engine under the hood, while those who want more performance will still be able to opt for an AMG 43 version, powered by a 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 that's good for 385 horsepower and 384 lb-ft of torque. Finally, the GLC 63 S variant is always there for V8 engine enthusiasts, while a 4-litre turbocharged engine offering 503 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque is at its service to satisfy the most demanding customers.

The Mercedes-Benz GLC was already an interesting solution without its segment; it's even more so in 2021.
