2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE vs. 2021 Volvo XC60: Performance Has Never Been So Comfortable

The innovative Mercedes-Benz GLE is a leader in the mid-size luxury SUV segment. With many technological advancements, various powertrains, and attention to spaciousness and versatility, the GLE creates yet another exciting lineup for 2021.

With several competitors in the same segment, we compare how the GLE measures up. Today, we focus on the 2021 Volvo XC60.

The 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE has the widest range of power

The GLE lineup is represented by four trims, which include two AMG models. The GLE 350 features a turbocharged, 2.0-litre four-cylinder that produces 255 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque. That is better output than the XC60's base trim, the Momentum T5, which generates 250 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque.

Next in the GLE lineup is the 450. Equipped with a turbocharged 3.0-litre engine, it attains an impressive 362 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. Comparatively, the XC60's best competition are T6 engine-equipped models that peak at 316 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque.

The XC60's best performance models are equipped with the T8 hybrid system that increases horsepower to 400 and torque to 472 lb-ft. The Polestar Engineered trim with the same engine increases both numbers slightly.

What's left for the Mercedes-Benz are the more powerful AMG GLE 53 and AMG GLE 63 S models with respective ratings of 429 and 603 horsepower. Overall, the GLE greatly outperforms the XC60.

The 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE combines high-tech with luxury

The interior of the GLE ranges from a high-tech playground to a comfortable home away from home. The Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) enables you and your passengers to interact with the GLE to initiate numerous vehicle functions with a simple voice command or selection on a touchscreen.

MBUX uses artificial intelligence and learns common preferences, making it easier for you to have a personalized driving experience every time. However, the XC60 does not have this degree of occupant/vehicle connectivity available.

The GLE is so roomy that it makes available a third-row seating option. It also has a total cargo volume of 2,055 litres, exceeding the XC60 by hundreds of litres. The GLE also includes more front and rear headroom and shoulder room than the XC60.
