2021 Mercedes-Benz GLC vs. 2021 Acura RDX: Advancements in Technology

The Mercedes-Benz GLC continues its ascent in the luxury compact SUV segment in 2021. The aerodynamic body translates into an advanced cabin that is refined and sophisticated. Three powertrains offer a great performance that suits the needs of the most demanding drivers. When you want more sport in your premium luxury SUV, the GLC delivers.

To illustrate how the GLC compares to the competition, we line up the GLC to the 2021 Acura RDX.

The 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLC dominates in performance

One of the most impressive advantages of the GLC over the RDX is the availability of powertrains. The GLC 300 4MATIC includes a turbocharged four-cylinder that outputs 255 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque. Next in line is the GLC AMG 43 4MATIC with an upgraded 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged six-cylinder that elevates performance to 385 horsepower and 384 lb-ft of torque. And when top performance is required, the GLC AMG 63 S 4MATIC offers an exhilarating 503 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque.

The Acura RDX places its bets on a single powertrain, a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder that generates 272 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque. It only provides a slight horsepower advantage over the GLC 300, but all remaining GLC performance numbers exceed the capabilities of the Acura RDX.

Moreover, the GLC offers better towing capacity, with 3,500 lb compared to 1,500 lb with the RDX.

The 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLC leads in artificial intelligence

The 2021 GLC offers more comfort and refinement than the RDX. But the technology is also way ahead. For example, the GLC is available with a crystal clear 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster display that is much more advanced than the RDX’s analog gauges.

Also, the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) expands how drivers and passengers interact with the vehicle by using voice and touch commands. For example, you can say "Hey Mercedes, find a coffee place" and the available navigation system will direct you to the next coffee shop. Or just say "I am cold" and MBUX will adjust the temperature in the vehicle.

MBUX has the ability to learn about your favourite settings, songs, entertainment, places and more through its artificial intelligence software engine. This enables the system to provide a very personalized experience. The Acura RDX does not offer this type of human-vehicle connection.
