2021 Mercedes-Benz GLC: A look at the engines

The GLC is one of the jewels of the Mercedes-Benz product range. Operating in the trendy luxury compact SUV segment, it faces fierce competition, but it does so with confidence because of the many features it offers.

And that includes what's under the hood. The 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLC offers a choice of engines to satisfy every taste and desire. Let's take a look at it together.

GLC 300 4MATIC

For those looking for a vehicle that will deliver all the luxury they need but whose performance will be efficient without being flamboyant, the 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbo engine equipping the GLC 300 version is a perfect match. It delivers 255 horsepower (5800 to 6100 rpm) and 273 pound-feet of torque (1800 to 4000 rpm).

That's enough horsepower to get us from 0-100 km/h in just 6.2 seconds.

GLC 43 4MATIC AMG

If you find this 0-100 km/h time too slow, then maybe you'll find the right shoe for you with the GLC 43 version of the model. Here, we see a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 that produces 385 horsepower (5,000 to 6,000 rpm) and 384 pound-feet of torque (2,500 to 4,500 rpm). The compromise offered with this powerplant is interesting, as you still find the same comfort level but with remarkably increased capacity under the hood. The 0-100 km/h time drops below the 5-second mark to precisely 4.9 seconds. That's enough to beat the competition.

GLC 63 S 4MATIC AMG

Not enough? Then, the GLC 63 S variant features a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine that sends 503 horsepower (5500 to 6250 rpm) and 516 pound-feet of torque (1750 to 4500 rpm) to all four wheels. This impressive powertrain can go from 0-100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds, which is insane. Additionally, a V8 engine can offer what no other engine block with a different displacement can, and that's a unique sound. It's a more than attractive combination.

Every 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLC comes with a nine-speed automatic transmission. The 9G-Tronic gearbox is used in the GLC 300, while the AMG SPEEDSHIFT transmission is used in the other two models.
