2021 Mercedes-Benz A-Class: Impressive Luxury in a Small Package

Mercedes-Benz has repeatedly demonstrated that not only can they build large and expensive high-end vehicles, but that they are also equally adept at creating mass-volume affordable luxury cars and crossovers.

The B-Class, CLA, and GLA are three such examples that prove that excellence can come in small packages. In fact, so popular are the three products that they’ve managed to open up the Canadian market’s doors to Mercedes-Benz’s smallest car, the A-Class. The A-Class is the smallest Mercedes-Benz on the market and one of the most affordable, but it delivers the luxury, refinement, comfort, and performance expected from the a vehicle with the Silver Star.

Once reserved for European and some Asian markets, the A-Class arrived on the market two years ago, coinciding with the launch of the fourth generation of Mercedes-Benz’s entry-level car. Despite being a reasonably priced compact car, the A-Class nevertheless offers an impressive list of safety and connectivity technologies.

On the powertrain front, the A-Class offers a range of engines that deliver both power and efficiency. Powering the A 250 is a turbocharged 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine mated to a standard 7G-DCT dual-clutch transmission. The produced 221-horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque is distributed to either the front wheels only or to all four corners via the sporty 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system. The A 220 also gets a turbocharged four-cylinder engine but with 188 horsepower. Still, there’s plenty of power on tap and if you want even more, you can opt for the Mercedes-AMG A 35 that delivers 302 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque.

The suspension will consist of a McPherson front and sophisticated four-link rear setup for both agility and comfort. DYNAMIC SELECT provides the driver with various drive modes for maximum efficiency or fun.

The A-Class was the first Mercedes-Benz vehicle to offer the impressive Mercedes-Benz User Experience or MBUX system. This multimedia system includes artificial intelligence, giving it the ability to learn the user’s preferences while simplifying interactions through an advanced voice command system.
