2020 Mercedes-Benz GLB vs. 2020 BMW X1

The new Mercedes-Benz GLB is a compact luxury SUV that is packed with features. With optional third-row seating, it fits up to seven passengers and has flexible cargo volume. The stylish exterior design makes it appear more than just a family vehicle.

With any new model, it is important to compare it against top competition to illustrate benefits. Here, we place it head-to-head with the BMW X1.

The 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLB has outstanding efficiency and performance options

The GLB 250 4MATIC trim features a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 221 hp and a generous 258 lb-ft of torque. The quick-shifting eight-speed transmission quickly responds to your acceleration commands. Because of the advanced technology throughout the engine and drivetrain, it earns a fuel consumption rating of 9.2/6.4 L/100 km (city/highway).

The BMW X1 is also powered by a 2.0L turbocharged engine that results in the same torque and virtually the same horsepower. However, the technology is years behind. The X1 runs much more inefficiently, resulting in a fuel consumption rating of 10.3/7.7 L/100 km. This will increase your daily operational costs.

Available soon in 2020, the Mercedes-Benz AMG GLB 35 features a 2.0L twin-scroll turbo engine that produces 302 hp and 296 lb-ft of torque. With a fuel consumption rating of 9.3/6.5 L/100 km (city/highway), it is attractively efficient in a high performance SUV like this.

The 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLB is a home away from home

Compact SUVs aren’t widely known as spacious, but you will find that with the GLB. There is plenty of room to stretch during lengthy trips with more front and rear leg room and front shoulder room compared to the X1. The GLB also accommodates two more passengers with an optional third row.

The GLB’s cargo volume of up to 1,840 L provides you versatility for any journey, whether it is a trip to the store or an extended family vacation. This amounts to 142 more litres of space over the X1.

The GLB is also available with two 10.3-inch screens for instrumentation and infotainment along with the very advanced MBUX infotainment system, something you won’t find in the X1.
